Toilets That Aren’t Flushing

People might think that they’ll have to replace toilets that have stopped flushing. They might want to do so if the toilet is old enough. However, they should have every reason to believe that the toilet itself is fine. There might just be an issue with one of the toilet’s components, such as the flapper or the lift chain.

Toilet Flapper
Since the toilet’s rubber flapper is used each time the toilet gets flushed, it’s relatively easy for this part to become worn. People who are having constant issues with their toilets should examine the flapper carefully. They’ll need to look inside the toilet’s tank at this step.
The flapper might look like it’s in decent shape, but it still might not be sealing the area well enough when the toilet has been flushed. If the flapper looks visibly distorted in any way, it is time to get a replacement product.

Fortunately, simple rubber toilet flappers are not expensive. Some people might order them online. They should be available at almost all hardware stores and stores that sell home improvement equipment. Once people have seen the toilet’s current rubber flapper for themselves, they can start considering some other possible causes.

Clogs
The underlying problem could be a simple plumbing clog. While the toilet itself might not seem as if it has been noticeably clogged at this stage, there could be an issue in the pipe system.

People may still be able to fix this toilet issue by using a simple toilet plunger. Some people are also able to solve problems with toilet clogs by using the right cleaners. If the clog is tight enough, they might be able to solve everything that way. Individuals who have these problems often enough might need new toilets, since some older toilets are just not practical at this stage.

Lift Chain
Even if the toilet’s rubber flapper functions normally, other parts of the mechanism could still be experiencing issues. The toilet’s lift chain might actually be broken. If it’s not broken, the toilet’s lift chain always could be too loose, making it much less effective and reliable.

Some people may need to get completely new lift chains for their toilets. However, they also might be able to modify the chain in a reasonably simple way. Sometimes, the toilet’s lift chain needs to be shorter. Depending on the design of the toilet lift chain, just removing a few links can be enough.

Toilet Tank Water Level
When the toilet flushing mechanism has problems, something connected to the toilet tank is often the cause. Sometimes, it is more directly related to that toilet tank. The tank may not have enough water, which is an important part of the mechanism. There might be a related issue with the bathroom water valve or the related plumbing. While part of the system might be malfunctioning, the water valve could have been shut off by accident.

Once people have already considered all of the toilet issue’s usual causes, they can consider contacting the professional plumbers at Ford’s Plumbing. There might be a more complicated problem with the toilet that needs to be addressed quickly, or people will need to replace their toilets. Of course, replacing a relatively old toilet might be the next step for some customers. It makes sense to check.
